Permit to stay

If you plan to stay in Italy for more than 3 months for study purposes, you will have to apply for a Permit of Stay (Permesso di Soggiorno) within 8 days from the date of arrival, to the Immigration Office at your nearest Police Station (Commissariato). You can find the complete address list on the phone book under the name “Polizia di Stato”.

Opening hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday:
9am-12am; Thursday 3pm -6pm.

You will need to produce the following items:
Application form (available at the Police Station)
Passport + 2 photocopies (including photos, personal data and expiry date)
Entry Visa (if requested) + 2 photocopies
5 passport size photos (4 photos if you are an EU citizen)
1 revenue stamp for the value of € 14,62 (to purchase at the tobacconist. Not required for EU citizens)
Certificate of Enrolment of the school + 1 photocopy
Evidence of Insurance coverage (*) or registration to the National Health Service + 1 photocopy.
(* Should not have your own insurance you can forward payment of €77,47 valid for one year or € 38,73 for 6 months, on the bank account n°71270003 entitled to “Le Assicurazioni d’Italia” Agenzia Generale di Roma, via del Tritone 181 – 00187 ROMA)
Evidence of economic means for the duration of their stay in Italy (e.g. a copy of credit card), + 2 photocopies.
Lodging contract or document of “Cessione di fabbricato”, in 2 photocopies (this document must be produced by the accommodation owner)
